Each year, thoussands of Ozark visitors experience Harold Bell Wright's novel "The Sherpherd of the Hills ", as it comes to live in the outdoor amphitheatre at the Homestead The Shephards along with dozens of other cast characters, create an exithing re-enactment of turn-of-the-century Ozark hill life; including feuds, fights, fires, horses and wagons, square dancing, mystery and murder.

Het openluchtspel is een groot spektakel en het vind plaats van mei- oktober in Branson . Er doen 80 acteurs en 40 paarden mee.
Het boek Shepherds of the Hills werd uitgegeven in 1907 .
In 1941 werd het boek verfilmd met John Wayne in de hoofdrol.
Harold Bell Wright is de eerste Amerikaanse schrijver die miljonair werd door zijn schrijven.
