One of the marvels of the north of England, Hadrian Wall was built by order of the Emperor Hadrian between 122 and 130 AD. This spectacular fortification ran for 73 miles from the Tyne to the Solway Firth. Guards posts known as milecastles were attachted to the wall and sixteen forts were eventually built along the lenght of the wall to house soldiers.
